Who are we
I'm Jason Blackman and I'm a co-founder of 'Purrfect Numbers'. I qualified as an accountant in 2000 and in 2016 I was named as one of 'The World's Most Inspiring Accountants' by accountancy author Steve Pipe.
My wife, Clare, has over 30 years in administration, with 27 of those with a large local accountancy firm. Clare will be responsible for the smooth running of the business and making sure all deadlines and all compliance requirements are met.
Lastly, there is Cotton, our beloved cat. He is the inspiration behind the name Purrfect Numbers. Cotton is a rescue cat and was adopted by Clare in 2017. He can often be found asleep in the office window, one of his favourite spots in the house.
Your Total Outsourced Accounting Solution
Most accountants focus on history - at Purrfect Numbers in Lewes we focus on the present.
It's always difficult having a separate accountant & bookkeeper. You have to wait for the bookkeeper to update all the records and then, eventually, they will pass your records on to an accountant. Then there's a delay while they communicate, retrieve the data, prepare the accounts and ultimately report on history.
Here at 'Purrfect Numbers' we do both. Accountancy AND bookkeeping. We use Xero and make sure the bookkeeping is up-to-date on a regular basis. That way, before we prepare your accounts, we already know the numbers, so we are able to help you BEFORE it's too late. That's the difference.
We still provide all our services individually if required including bookkeeping, annual accounts, VAT returns, payroll, tax returns etc. However, we do find that we are able to give you a far more proactive service when you use us as your complete 'outsourced accountancy solution'.
Why Purrfect Numbers in Lewes is different...
Although our practice is based in Lewes in East Sussex, not too far from Brighton, we are happy to serve clients anywhere in the UK because we are completely cloud-based. Cloud-based means that all our work is done online in a safe, secure & efficient way. So, although we are based in Sussex, it doesn't necessarily mean that you need accountants Brighton-based, or bookkeeping Lewes-based.
We are so proud of being 'in the cloud' but, if you prefer to work offline and you need to have your bookkeeping Brighton-based, or you need to have your accountants Lewes-based then we are still here for you!
Over the years we have seen many problems with traditional accountants, especially with clients who have a separate bookkeeper. The disparity between the two can often cause clients to have to wait for their accounts to be prepared, often becoming too late to actually do anything about the impending tax bill!
So that is why we are different. Our solution provides the bookkeeping AND the accounts for the client so that we are able to spot any issues that need highlighting before we even start preparing the accounts.
Services we offer
Accountancy
We will prepare your accounts in a timely fashion and file with HMRC and Companies House if required.
Tax
Whether you are self employed or have a limited company, we can help with all aspects of tax, including preparing and filing tax returns to HMRC before the deadlines.
Bookkeeping
Often a bookkeeper can reduce your accountancy fees. We can offer a full bookkeeping service together with your accounts preparation, or as a stand alone service, to help you keep your books up to date.
VAT
If you are registered or need to register for VAT, we are able to help with all VAT matters.
Payroll
We can offer all aspects of payroll for you, including processing your payroll and help with auto enrolment. All frequencies of payrolls can be processed, in time to pay your staff.
File & Go
This service is for small limited companies. We prepare your accounts and file them with Companies House and submit the corporation tax return to HMRC. Click here to purchase this service (pay full amount by debit/credit card, or by instalments with Klarna or Clearpay)

We do NOT charge by the hour, we will always agree a price for the job before we commence work. We also offer convenient monthly payments to help with budgets.
